Meet Carlos

Carlos Brown

Carlos M. Brown is a father, a husband, an attorney, and a lifelong Virginian.  He was born to a single mother in the Hickory area of the City of Chesapeake in 1974.  His first home was a four room house without a bathroom that he and his mother shared with seven others.

 

Carlos attended Great Bridge High School where he was Student Body President and graduated in the top of his class in 1992 before attending the University of Virginia as an Echol's Scholar.  He earned a degree with honors in American Government and African American Studies with minors in religion and history in 1996. Carlos served as Student Body President at UVA and is also a brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.  After graduating, Carlos served as a Governor's Fellow where he worked on welfare reform and educational issues. Carlos attended law school at the University of Virginia School of law as a Hardy Cross Dillard Scholar and was also President of the Black Law Student's Association.

 

After law school, Carlos began his legal career with McGuire Woods before starting his own law firm, Brown Martin, PC.  Currently, Carlos is senior counsel for mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance of Dominion Resources Services.  While developing his law practice, Carlos worked hard in the community by serving numerous boards such as Capital Source, Inc., a small business lender that focused on lending to small, women and minority-owned businesses; the Board of Advisers to Highland Park Community Development Corporation; and the Trinity Village Center.  Carlos is also a two time appointee to the Virginia Small Business Advisory Board, a board that advises the Governor and Secretary of Commerce on issues facing small businesses.  In his spare time, Carlos also coaches a local youth football team.

 

In 2006, Carlos was called to the ministry at Trinity Baptist Church. He also enrolled in Virginia Union University and began pursuing his Master of Divinity.  In 2008, Carlos was ordained at Trinity Baptist Church where he serves as an associate minister.

 

Carlos is married to Tamara Charity, a pediatrician, who he met at the University of Virginia.  Carlos and Tamara have three children, Carlos Jr., Charity, and Chelsea.
